Liquid Larvicide Applications (Using A1 Misting System)

To prevent mosquito problems before they start, PCMCD also uses truck-mounted misting systems to apply liquid larvicides in targeted areas.

An orange truck with equipment, possibly for fumigation, is on the road emitting smoke.
A1 Misting System

What It Does:

  • Targets immature mosquitoes (larvae) in residential neighborhoods, catch basins, roadside ditches, stormwater systems, and containers that hold standing water.
  • Delivers a fine mist of biological larvicide (typically containing Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis or Bti) to breeding habitats that are often hard to reach.

Where It’s Used:

  • Urban and suburban areas where Aedes aegypti and other container-breeding mosquito species thrive. Aedes aegypti is know to transmit dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and Yellow Fever viruses.
  • Especially helpful in densely populated neighborhoods, industrial corridors, and areas with persistent water-holding infrastructure.

Why It Works:

  • Larviciding prevents the next generation of mosquitoes from ever becoming adults.
  • Applying treatments based on mosquito life stage and habitat ensures products are used effectively, responsibly, and only where needed.

Surveillance-Driven Decisions

Every truck-based treatment, whether larvicide or adulticide, is guided by:

  • Daily trap collections and field data to monitor mosquito populations
  • Breeding site inspections by field technicians
  • Environmental factors such as rainfall, flooding, or container presence

We align treatment type and timing with the mosquito life cycle, ensuring that every application is:

  • Appropriate for the life stage present
  • Scientifically justified
  • Environmentally conscious
