Press Release - EEE Pasco Mosquito-Borne Illness Advisory - April 30, 2024

The Florida Department of Health issues a Mosquito-Borne Illness Advisory! Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus (EEEV) has been detected in a group of sick emus in Pasco County. Upon notification from our community partners at DOH-Pasco, the PCMCD immediately sprang into action, mounting our comprehensive mosquito control response. Teams on the ground have amplified mosquito surveillance efforts to identify the primary mosquito vectors and perform various control actions, such as seeking out mosquito breeding habitats in the area and performing adult mosquito control applications to reduce the potential for spread of the virus. We encourage you to protect yourself from mosquito exposure by covering your skin with clothing and a US EPA-approved insect repellent. Keep mosquitoes outside by using screens on windows and doors. And remember to drain standing water that may accumulate around your home. For more information, visit us at PascoMosquito.org or call the office at 727-376-4568. #FightTheBite #DrainAndCover
