Treatment Scheduling and Frequency
Q: What is the schedule for nighttime treatments?
A: We do not deploy control applications on a set schedule. We make daily treatment decisions based on the number of mosquitoes found in surveillance traps and/or landing rate counts reported by our inspectors. All of our operations are guided by science-driven data collection.
Q: How often do you treat in our area?
A: Treatment frequency is data driven and depends on the specific mosquito species found in any given area and the size of their population. We conduct surveillance by collecting adult mosquitoes using over 92 traps throughout the county and identifying them to species. These surveillance traps are collected daily or weekly to monitor areas that may need immediate attention.
Q: Can I request to have the truck treat my area?
A: We do not schedule control applications based on individual requests. PCMCD is permitted to treat for mosquitoes and must follow Florida regulations under (Florida statute 5E-13 of the Florida Administrative Code, which requires documented justification before a treatment is conducted.
Q: How can I find out if you are spraying my area?
A: Visit our website and click on the "Treatment Map" link on the home page. Resident Treatment Notification system coming soon, please check back for more information.
Q: Why does an inspector need to visit my property if mosquitoes are affecting the whole neighborhood?
A: With over 45 mosquito species in Pasco County, our inspectors must identify the specific species at your location to develop an effective, targeted treatment plan. This often involves collecting samples to identify the mosquito species, and based on habitat preference, the technician can then pinpoint the source of the problem and more effectively control the population.
